In order to address the objectives of the residents' survey (2000), Blacon Neighbourhood Management Pathfinder has created five key partnerships, each led by a resident chairperson.
Each partnership meets regularly to assess progress towards their aims (which can be seen in the action plan section of the annual delivery plan) and measure their performance.
The partnerships operate by bringing together agencies that work in Blacon, such as the police, fire service, City & County Council, housing trusts and associations, health professionals etc. to work together in genuine partnership to improve life in Blacon.
Some challenges are very stretching and only concerted coordinated efforts by each partnership will bring success.
Each partnership has its own page on this web site, so you may browse and see for yourself some of the issues they have tried to progress and some of the successes they shave achieved.
Finally, it is very important that people who live and work in Blacon participate in this process; after all it is their agenda we are trying progress. If you want to take part in one or more of the activities you will be made most welcome.
You may just come along to any of the public meetings Pathfinder administers at any time, or if you would like to speak to somebody first you will find a contact name under each partnership heading. You can use the main phone number on the home page or the contact form. |
The five key partnerships represented in Blacon are...
Community Safety:
The partnership works to reduce crime and the fear of crime in Blacon by working in partnership with several agencies. For example, the partnership introduced Blacon Car Clear Plus, the celebrated scheme for speedy removal of abandoned vehicles. The partnership is also working currently with Community Safety Wardens to deliver the burglary reduction tool, Smart Water. This partnership is very keen to recruit new volunteer resident members from the Blacon community.

Health:
The Health partnership has conducted lifestyle surveys in Blacon schools to measure the health of young people so that targeted interventions can be introduced to promote healthier lifestyles. In addition older people are also the focus of a new 'Sloppy Slippers' initiative designed to reduce incidents of slips, trips and falls among the older age group.

Education (including adult learning):
The education partnership coordinator was withdrawn from Pathfinder in 2006 but had been instrumental in encouraging our six local schools to work more closely together in the nationally recognised 'Blacon Education Village' initiative. The partnership still works to improve adult education opportunities.
